Immersive theatre can take on many forms, but what we lean into here at counter/current:collective is our ability to immerse our audience into the world of the play through “site specific” locations and intimate audience numbers.
"Site Specific" means that we take the setting of the play to heart, so instead of building a set to look like the play’s location, we find actual locations and set the play there!
Then we bring in small numbers of audience members over several performances so everyone gets an “up close and personal” theatre experience.
Through this Immersive Theatre practice, we are able to activate locations in our community in unique and surprising ways, as well as connect deeply with each one of our audience members.
And finally, we facilitate a post show discussion after every performance to give you the opportunity to share your thoughts, ask questions and discuss, as a community, how we can work to resolve issues the play may have brought up.
You are more than just a ticket buyer. You are our friends and our neighbors, and your experience matters to us.
So: Who's in? Jump into the current with us, feel the difference… be counter/current!
BELFAST, ME
We endeavor to conjure brave spaces where we can take creative risks with each other and revel in cool, weird, occasionally uncomfortable but always captivating experiences together. And then talk about it. Preferably over tea.
