Season '27 is in the works! Thank you for an amazing '26!

Wow, what a season '26 was! We started the year with our Coastal Tour of "A Number", Caryl Churchill's suspenseful thriller about a father cloning his son, tucked into intimate wine bars, living rooms and candlelit carriage houses. Then in February, we invited 3 theatre artists from around the country to join us for a 5 day intensive to create "Tögal", our new work loosely based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

John bopped over in April to Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor to direct "The Garbologists", then we jumped right into rehearsals for our epic summer production of "Uncle Vanya". Our most adventurous production yet, Uncle Vanya was held at a chicken barn in Appleton, where Courtney designed an entire country estate out of free piles, the dump and the amazing items already at the barn. Audiences followed the performers from a tea party outside in the garden, to the dining room, living room and finally, after joining the cast in searching the house, squeezing into Vanya's bedroom for the final scene.

Now as the autumn leaves fall, we have been launching the theatre program at the Ecology Learning Center High School in Unity, along with running a grant funded community theatre production of "Parody This!" which will open April 9th, 2027.

We are also in deep talks about what is in store for 2027! We are feeling some spirits coming through, guiding us to produce work that focuses on conversations about community, religion, war, and the human movement in a rapidly more robotic world.

We plan to announce our season in December, so make sure you are on our Newsletter to be the first to know what is in store for the Midcoast in 2027!

For now, we are in awe with this supportive, loving community we get to create art for. Thank you for everything you have done to help counter/current be the "Most adventurous theatre company in Maine"!

With all our Love,

Courtney, John, Madeline

counter/current Artistic Leadership
